What should a Sri Lankan travel website include?

A Sri Lankan travel website is judged in about ten seconds by someone in London, Melbourne or Munich comparing five operators in five tabs. They are not asking whether the site is beautiful. They are asking whether this company is real, whether the tour fits, and how easily they can ask a question.

This is the checklist we used on the Lotus Tours case study and apply on every travel build. If you are planning a new site, it maps closely to our web development service.

What travellers decide on before enquiring

  • Is the itinerary clear — days, places, travel time between stops?
  • Is there a starting price, or at least a price range per person?
  • Is the operator licensed and reachable by a real person?
  • Do the photos look like Sri Lanka, or like a stock library?

Tours, itineraries and pricing presentation

Present each tour as a day-by-day route with a map, the hotel tier and what is included. Publish a 'from' price in USD per person; hiding prices increases low-quality enquiries rather than reducing them.

Enquiry and booking flows that work

  • A short enquiry form: dates, group size, tour interest, email. Nothing else on the first step.
  • A WhatsApp button for travellers who prefer chat — common for European and Indian markets.
  • An instant confirmation that says when a real reply will arrive.
  • Online deposits only once the itinerary is agreed; most travellers still want a conversation first.

Trust: reviews, licensing and real photography

Link to independent reviews rather than pasting quotes. Show your SLTDA registration where applicable. Use your own photographs of your vehicles, guides and guests — real images convert better than polished stock, and they cannot be found on a competitor's site.

Speed, images and mobile data

Many visitors browse on hotel Wi-Fi or roaming data. Compress every image, serve modern formats, and keep the first screen light. A free website audit will show how heavy your current pages are.

Search visibility for travel queries

Give each tour and destination its own page with a unique title, so 'Sri Lanka 7 day tour' and 'Ella train journey' can each rank. Our SEO service covers the structure, internal linking and local profiles that support this.

Frequently asked questions

Should a travel website show prices?

Yes — at least a 'from' price per person. It filters out mismatched enquiries and builds trust with international travellers who compare several operators.

Do we need a full online booking engine?

Rarely at first. Most Sri Lankan tours are customised, so a fast enquiry flow plus deposit payment after agreement works better than an instant-book cart.
