WordPress, Shopify, Webflow or custom — what each is genuinely good at, and the limits you accept when you choose one.

There is no best website platform for every Sri Lankan business — only the one whose limits you can live with. Choosing a platform is choosing who controls your speed, your costs and how easily you can change things later.

WordPress

Flexible, widely known, and cheap to start. The cost appears later: plugin updates, security patches and slow themes. Good for content-heavy sites with someone responsible for maintenance.

Shopify and e-commerce platforms

Excellent for product catalogues and checkout. Check local payment gateway support and the monthly app costs before committing; they add up quickly in rupee terms.

Webflow and site builders

Fast to design, clean output, but subscription-based and harder to extend with custom logic or integrations with local systems.

Custom builds

A custom site is fastest, fully yours, and can connect to booking, CRM or inventory systems. It costs more upfront and is right when the website does real work for the business. See our web development and custom software services.

How to decide

  • Brochure site with occasional updates: a template platform is usually fine.
  • Online shop with standard checkout: Shopify or similar.
  • Bookings, quotes, portals or integrations: custom.
  • Unsure? Compare three-year costs, not launch costs — our pricing estimator helps.

Frequently asked questions

Which platform is cheapest in Sri Lanka?

WordPress usually has the lowest launch cost, but maintenance, plugins and hosting upgrades can make it more expensive over several years.

Can I move platforms later?

Yes. Plan redirects from every old URL so you keep your search rankings during the move.
